It is with great sadness that I learned of the disappearance December 28, 2010 of Jacques Dars which was not only the great translator of Shuihuzhuan 水浒传 [ At waterfront , "Bibliotheque de la Pleiade" (1978)] and many other prominent Chinese literary works, a discreet and caring sinologist but an exceptional human being as much by his vast erudition, by his modesty, his ability to listen and accuracy of its opinions.

I extend, on my behalf and on behalf of the members of our team, our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all his readers with his departure, the Chinese novel, literary translation are, again, in mourning.
