A few days ago, I told you of my total enthusiasm after reading the novel More lives than mine (shortlisted for the prize QD9 2010). This was my second foray into the work of Carrere, my first approach was much less positive (understatement) since I hated the movie adaptation that the author had made of his eponymous novel The mustache . with Emmanuelle Devos Vincent Lindon and . So I wanted to read the book to see if I would join the more written work that movie. The answer is undoubtedly yes even if it is a qualified yes ...
The subject
Mark ever decides to shave his mustache but no one around her seems to notice ... worse, his wife Agnes, his colleagues, his friends say he has never worn a mustache. Between the bad joke and insanity, interpretations vary and alternate in the spirit of Mark while his relations with others deteriorate inexorably.

The film, especially en route, leaving a strange feeling, one felt that the various elements that composed it did not fit together, the namby-pamby and realistic story of the daughter-mother and the doctor smiled clashed with that of the village crazy where you butcher the lynching on perceiving it was doctor, where people were committing murders after serving the sentence which sanctioned, and it almost seemed that instead of watching the film they had made both in As, without consulting or although each trying to undermine the work of another as this would generate an exquisite corpse in wishing it failed to annoy other participants. It was probably as well, he thought, what had worked the writers, by shooting himself in the leg. The snow continued to fall on the screen, it would last all night. My opinion
If, exceptionally, I wanted to quote from the novel before writing my review is that it is a good approach to what I think of the novel I wonder if the author did not write this passage guide metaphor. From my point of view, the problem described for this movie by chance seen by the two protagonists of the novel is exactly the book: the coexistence of disparate elements that face more than they create cohesion. At the reading, I felt that Emmanuel Carrère was struck with schizophrenia in his novel and some of his spending his Sapper time to the job of writing and structuring of the work done elsewhere.
So I found the novel and the shaky status of the narrator was uncomfortable. The novel is written in 3rd person singular but clearly adopts the view of Mark which he describes the thoughts and changes gradually with the development of the subject. He did not, however, adopts a radical and an ambiguity remains constant. I realize that it is voluntary, but it seemed to me the most singularly useful!
Stay in the dark does not only lose the reader and to keep on their toes (I do not was) it is also (especially?) comfort for the lazy writer who therefore does not even bother to make a coherent novel at s'enquiquiner make sense?
Emmanuel Carrère evacuated the problem of reality and most basic is a shame especially since at the same time, he insists on for pages and pages to describe in detail (and without any real analysis) different assumptions and strategies developed by Marc. It's terribly first degree and it quickly becomes tedious and even boring.
The subject approached me consider Rhinoceros at truism and also ... this recent pub Herta I hate because it gives a picture of the couple that I hate between cruelty incommunicability lying bitch narcissism of women passive and cowardly and stupid man. I realize that this pub is supposed to be funny, light and anecdotal but it does not.
What about the end?

The end has taped some (e) s. I just thought it was a facilitated more when the book began to take a turn more substantial and analytical when anxiety began to mount. Carrère suddenly deserted his subject as his character abruptly fled France and reality (or lack thereof ...).
